Jayalalithaa death: PM Narendra Modi pays his final respects to the former chief minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his final tributes to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in Chennai on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Modi reached Chennai Tuesday afternoon and was accompanied by Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao to Rajaji Hall where Jayalalithaa’s body was kept.
Modi placed a floral tribute in front of the coffin and folded his hands to pay his respects.

In a series of tweets last night, the Prime Minister had expressed his condolences over the passing away of the Tamil Nadu CM. The PM said that he is “deeply saddened at the passing away of Selvi Jayalalithaa. Her demise has left a huge void in Indian politics.”

Jayalalithaa, who was hailed in the country as ‘Iron Lady’, passed away last night after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday. In spite of repeated efforts by the doctors at Apollo Hospitals to revive her, she lost battle against a long-time illness. The untimely death of Jayalalithaa has plunged the state into grief with hordes of political leaders and people across the country offering their condolences to the political stalwart.
