Apart from corruption, India’s biggest issues include poverty. Povery is a curse to Indian economic growth. Due to the vast gap between rich and poor, many still live below the poverty line, and they are forced to survive on begging.
Mumbai is famously known as the slum city because not only the poor, but even people earning good amount of money also can not afford good accommodation there.
We see many beggars on footpaths, traffic signals and outside temples, and out of pity we offer them food, or clothes, or money. But the fact of which we still are not aware is, begging has now become a business.
A beggar named Bharat Jain must be familiar to you. His monthly earning and bank balance is probably more than yours! Apart from owning two apartments worth 70 lakh each, he also own a juice shop which he has given on rent and its monthly rent is 10k.
So
the main problem here is, the beggars whom you consider poor are
actually not poor. Poverty is there, but begging has become a business.
They work in gangs and each gang is led by a leader who operates the
business. Each beggar is to handover his takings to the gang leader.
